Inflammation
Inflammatory processes. Mechanistically plausible via CB2, but not clinically established in humans.
What the evidence says
Mechanistically supported by CB2 pharmacology and rodent models. No human clinical trials at realistic doses.
The mechanistic case is real. Beta-caryophyllene is a selective CB2 receptor agonist, CB2 receptors sit largely in immune tissue, and anti-inflammatory effects follow logically. Rodent models support it.
What does not exist is a human randomised trial establishing a clinical anti-inflammatory effect at cannabis-realistic doses. A 2020 study also found the CB2 binding weak and without functional consequence in its assay.
Treat anti-inflammatory claims as plausible and unproven.

Terpenes to look for
Commonly present in products people choose for this. Terpene effect claims are preclinical — this is a way to find a product again, not a promise about how it will feel.

Peppery, woody, spicy
- Humulene
Hoppy, woody, earthy
- Bisabolol
Sweet, floral, faintly nutty
Formats
- TopicalOnset 15–60 min · lasts 2–6 h
Creams, balms, and patches applied to skin. Non-transdermal topicals do not produce intoxication.
- TinctureOnset 15–90 min · lasts 4–8 h
Liquid extract dosed by dropper. The most precise way to titrate an oral dose in small increments.
